2.3.1 Plant bug - Lygus pratensis (L.) (Hemiptera, Miridae)
The bug measures 5-7.5 mm in length and 2.1-3.1 mm in width; it has a broadly rounded pronotum in the front quarter. The scutellum of this insect has a triangular shape and is about the same length as the pronotum. Its colour can vary, but it is usually a greenish tone with darker brown markings and spots. In some cases, there is a distinctive line of four spots along the middle of the elytra (Figure 55).
The eggs are small, around 1 mm long, and have a rounded shape, with a pale green colour.
The larvae resemble the adult form in appearance and go through five stages of development.
This species is found across Russia, both in the European and Asian parts, and throughout much of Europe. There is still some uncertainty about its presence in regions like Mongolia, China, Japan, and North America, and further research is needed to clarify this.
During the winter months, these insects typically survive in plant remnants like stubble, or beneath layers of leaves, bark, or in forested areas.
In terms of damage, the pest causes harm to the plant's vegetative parts, much like other insects that feed by piercing and sucking.
